Old friend, speak to me again
In poetry like when
I was a tadpole and you were a fish
I wish we had more time
Side by side
In the slime
The intricate sparkling slime that comprises
The detail of our lives
I meant to let you know
That I never meant to let you go
Tell me the one about faith
The ones about love
I didn't listen hard enough
Your voice is slipping away
I just know it sounded like rivers and wood smoke and meadows and tea to me
I meant to keep a tight grip on that sound
But the fingers of my mind are letting me down
Old friend I'm forgetting, I'm forgetting, and I don't want to, it hurts to
I dreamt that I lost you
Woke with a start, broke my own heart when I found it was true
Old friend, I'll raise a glass again
To a time when
I was myself and you were mine too
